Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday said the shortage of a vital anti-HIV drug — Nevirapine — that had hit patients across the State in the last two months would be addressed in the next 10 days. Nevirapine is a crucial drug that prevents multiplication of the virus and reduces its presence in the blood.
Replying to queries by presspersons here during a videoconference from Delhi, the Minister said other than this drug, there was no shortage of anti-HIV drugs in the country.
Nearly 90 per cent of the 1.09 lakh people who are on ART in the State are on a Nevirapine-based regimen.
