Shivamogga UAHS convocation today

The third convocation of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Shivamogga, titled “Suggi Sambhrama-3” will be held on its campus here on December 21.

P. Narayanaswamy, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, told presspersons here on Wednesday that degrees will be conferred to 385 candidates who have completed their bachelors and masters degrees in the academic year 2016-17. A total of 30 gold medals will be presented to 23 candidates . In addition to this, PhDs will be awarded to 12 candidates.

Governor Vajubhai Vala, who is also the Chancellor of the university, will preside over the programme. C. Vasudevappa, VC, National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Sonipat, will deliver the convocation address. Krishna Byregowda, Minister for Agriculture, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the university, will also take part , he said.

Mr. Narayanaswamy said that under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana three research centres have been established at UAHS, Shivamogga, this year that includes Centre for Climate Change and Resilience, Pesticide Residue, and Aflatoxin Detection Lab and Centre for Excellence on Plant Disease Diagnosis. Seeds of high yield paddy variety developed by the university named “KKP-5” that is also known for its disease-resistance qualities has been provided for the farmers of Bhadra reservoir command area during this kharif season, he said.

The convocation ceremony will commence at 11 a.m.
