Ministers in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government have been finally allocated portfolios, four days after they were sworn in. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj approved the list on Sunday.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, like his predecessors in the BJP government, has kept the Finance portfolio with him.
Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has been allocated Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Revenue portfolios. Another Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok has retained both the portfolios — Home and Transport — he held in the D.V. Sadananda Gowda Cabinet.
Ministers who have been retained in Mr. Shettar’s government have got their old portfolios. However, additional portfolios being held by the Ministers in the previous government have been taken away.
Tentative allocation
Sources in the BJP said this portfolio allocation was tentative in view of the legislature session which was scheduled to commence on July 19. Reshuffle of portfolios was likely next month, the sources said.
Mr. Shettar will also be in charge of the departments of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, Information, Mines and Geology, Minority Welfare, Information Technology and Biotechnology, and Bangalore city development.
