Security has been tightened across Belgaum city to maintain law and order during the grand finale of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations which will culminate with the immersion of idols on Wednesday evening.
Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and the District Armed Reserve (DAR) have been deployed in the city. The police have imposed traffic restrictions in the city to ensure that the immersion processions pass off without any hurdles and motorists are not affected.
Idols installed by 370 public Ganesh mandals will be taken out in processions for immersion. Dozens of cultural troupes from different parts of the State would also be participate in the event.
According to Superintendent of Police Chandragupta here on Tuesday, vehicular movement and parking will be prohibited — from 8 a.m. on Wednesday till the completion of the immersions on Thursday — on roads leading to Nargundkar Bhave Chowk, Kabli Khoot, Maruti Galli, Ramdev Galli, Samadevi Galli, Yande Khoot, Ramlingkhind Galli, Kirloskar Road, Kapileshwar Road, Tashildar Galli, Shiv Bhavan, Patil Galli, V.R.L. Logistics, Bank of India, Shahpur-Khade Bazaar and S.P.M. Road.
Diversion
Motorists will have to take a diversion at Gogte Circle near the railway station and have to proceed through Congress Road only.
Alternative parking facilities have been provided at Sardar High School ground, DC Compound, City Police Line, KSRTC pay and park facility near vegetable market, opposite Bharatesh School, and open spaces behind Bogarves or Anagol bus-stop.
Dr. Chandragupta has once again appealed to people to take part in the event without creating any law and order problem or disturbing peace and harmony.
