The State government is, in association with Synergia Foundation, organising a three-day workshop on Best International Practices in Building Resilient Cities to focus on security issues in Bangalore, home to over 10 million people. The workshop will be inaugurated on August 5.
Tushar Girinath, Revenue Secretary and chief of Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority wing, said that Bangalore is the third most populous city in the country, generating a GDP of over 83 billion dollars.
“With the increasing vulnerabilities, it is prudent to prepare ourselves against all risks as over 10 million lives and global business will be at stake. Mitigating and managing disruption must be top priority for the city,” he said.
According to Tushar Girinath here on Friday, the workshop, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, will have on the panel V. Balachandran, former special secretary to Union Government and co-author of the Pradhan-Balachandran Committee report on 26/11; Eric Oddo, a specialist in homeland security from the United States; Ceng Sagnic, an intelligence analyst from Turkey, and Dov Maisel, an expert in international rescue and who works with NATO in Brussels.
Asked whether the initiative is to protect the corporate interest of Bangalore, Mr. Girinath asserted that with the participation of district-level officers, the workshop will help in addressing the issues in tier two cities and district headquarters as well.
