The Mysuru Grain Merchants’ Association will distribute pulses at subsidised rates to the public for a week at its newly established counter at the APMC yard in the city.

This sale will last a week and has been introduced to help the public tide over the inflationary prices of pulses. Association president B.L. Ramesh said that about 500 quintals of pulses will be sold. He said that a decision will be taken by the association about extending the sale by another week.

“The initiative was taken by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) in Bengaluru last week and we have introduced it in Mysuru on Monday,” Mr. Ramesh said. K.Rameshwarappa, Deputy Director, Food and Civil Supplies Department, who inaugurated the subsidised sale, urged merchants to desist from selling it to the same customers repeatedly. He also asked them to insist on customers producing their ration card or Aadhaar card before purchasing.

He said the rates of pulses have skyrocketed.

He, however, said that owing to good rains in different parts of the country, the production of pulses was expected to increase and prices expected to dip in the days ahead.
