Police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials on Friday seized five multi-axle lorries on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in connection with gross permit violations, over-load and other irregularities.

The lorries were carrying different varieties of timber logs worth several crores of rupees, from Madikeri to Chennai, a senior police officer said. Based on information, the officials intercepted the lorries at different places between Srirangapatna and Maddur, and seized the logs, he told The Hindu.

The special enforcement wing, comprising officials of police and some other departments, took part in the operation.

According to Sadrulla Sheriff, Motor Vehicle Inspector, RTO, the drivers were transporting logs without proper permits, tax receipts, insurance and other documents. Preliminary investigations have revealed that they committed numerous violations pertaining to transporting timber, Mr. Sheriff added.

RTO officials have filed cases at Srirangapatna and Maddur police stations and further investigations are on.
