Soon after finishing the work of laying a top of thick concrete on Albert Victor Road, the work of reconstructing the main thoroughfares of the city will shift to the Chamaraja Double Road, instead of continuing along the Dasara procession route.

The work of laying a concrete layer after removing the asphalt on 7.65 km of roads began last month with the Public Works Department taking up the stretch between Hardinge Circle and Chamaraja Circle.

“We will not take up the Dasara procession route as any work on the road will disrupt the practice of Dasara elephants,” said Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha.

The Dasara elephants are taken out for a march along K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road and Bannimantap before returning to the Mysuru Palace, as part of their preparation for Dasara procession on Vijayadashami day.

The work on Albert Victor Road stretch is expected to be completed by this month end.

The reconstruction of roads in will be done along the Dasara procession route through K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road and Bannimantap, besides the stretch from Ramaswamy Circle to Basaveshwara Circle.

The concrete road works, taken up under the Rs. 100 crore sanctioned to the city by the State government for infrastructure improvement works, will ensure that the road become largely maintenance-free without potholes and requiring frequent repairs.

Ms. Shikha, who inspected the ongoing construction of Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Statue at Hardinge Circle, expressed confidence that the work will be completed before Dasara begins on October 14. Though the multi-level parking in Town Hall premises is unlikely to be ready before the start of Dasara, Ms. Shikha said the work on the Raja Marga will be completed till Ayurvedic College circle in a week’s time.
