RIMS convocation: 87 graduates get degrees

Meenakshi Yadav bags two awards for topping in obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics

Medical degrees were conferred on the fourth batch of students of the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at the convocation here on Friday evening.

The convocation was attended by paediatric cardiologist Vijayalakshmi Balekundri and senior surgical oncologist Kodaganur S. Gopinath, Minister of State for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil, RIMS dean-cum-director Kavita Patil, lecturers and heads of various departments and parents and students.

As many as eighty-seven graduates took the oath for serving humankind and promised to adhere to moral and ethical values and keeping themselves away from all kinds of malpractice.

While all the graduates received their medals, graduation certificates and mementoes, a few students were honoured with special awards for their outstanding performance.

Apart from receiving an award for emerging as topper, Meenakshi Yadav also bagged two subject-wise topper awards for securing highest marks in obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics. Garvita Solanki and Asma Jasmin bagged topper awards in general medicine and general surgery subjects respectively.

Gautam R., who bagged the best student of the outgoing batch award, got an opportunity to address the audience.

The event that started at about 5.30 p.m., about an hour late of schedule, continued to enthrall the men and women in black graduation gown and their parents for three hours with inspirational speeches and conferrals of degrees.
