July 18, 2014 10:11 am | Updated 10:11 am IST - MYSORE:

A pair of greater one-horned rhinoceros, is on its way to Mysore zoo from the Patna zoo.

It is learnt that the rhinos are being transported in specially-designed enclosures mounted on two long-chassis trucks. The rhino pair has been given to the Mysore zoo under the animal exchange programme. Chief veterinarian of Mysore zoo Suresh Kumar, four zookeepers and a supervisor are bringing the rhinos. They are expected to arrive here either on Monday or Tuesday, covering a distance of about 2,200 km by road. A veterinarian and two keepers from the Patna zoo have accompanied the Mysore zoo team. The Mysore zoo gave Indian gaurs (one male and two females), black swans (one male and two females), a pair of wolves and a hyena in exchange for the rhino pair. A male giraffe, Bheem, will be sent to the Patna zoo next week.
