Relay hunger strike by terminated JSW staff crosses 100 days

July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - BALLARI:

The ongoing relay hunger strike by a group of employees, who have been dismissed from JSW Severefield unit at Torangal in protest against the alleged anti-labour policies of the management, will enter 105th day on Monday.

The protest has been organised under the banner of the Krantikari Kamgar Union.

As there has been no response from the management or the government towards their demands, the employees have decided to intensify their agitation by staging a road roko on July 27at Gadagi Chennappa Circle.

The employees began the strike outside the office of the Labour Department on April 12, accusing the management of terminating employees who wished to form a union and transferring others. A few were attacked too, they alleged.

The union also criticised the State government for its failure to intervene to protect the interest of the workers and initiate action against the management for throwing labour laws to winds.

R. Manasaiah, president of the Trade Union Centre of India, in a press release, said that though around 10 rounds of conciliatory talks were held before the Labour Commissioner’s office in Kalaburagi and Bengaluru, the management failed to attend it on six occasions.

Officials, who were directed by the Labour Commissioner to look into the matter, had given a report in favour of the management, he alleged.
