The Government will complete the process of rehabilitating the flood-affected people in the district by the end of September, Water Resources Minister and district in-charge Basavaraj Bommai said in Kattisangavi village on Wednesday.
He was speaking after handing over 73 houses built at a cost of Rs 1.4 lakh each under the Aasare scheme for families who lost their dwellings in the floods of 2009.
Mr. Bommai said 40 villages were relocated and construction of 2,646 houses was taken up. “Of these, 2,400 houses were complete. The rest are nearing completion and will be transferred by September-end,” he said.
The rehabilitation of flood victims and reconstruction of villages under the Aasare scheme was a model for other States, the Minister said. All reconstructed villages were on a higher altitude so that farmers could live without the fear of floods. He promised to put up two solar lamps in Kattisangavi village.

The Government, he said, was taking all possible measures to develop the Hyderabad Karnataka region.
“I have discussed the issue with Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, and will do so again when he visits Gulbarga on September 17,” he said.
The Minister listed the development programmes and welfare measures started by the BJP Government.
Doddappagouda Patil Naribol, MLA, said construction of 802 houses in 16 relocated villages of Jewargi taluk was nearly complete. The Government was inviting tenders for the long-pending Mallabad lift irrigation project.
