Karnataka Medical Education Minister Ramachandra Gowda today said he is ready to face any inquiry on alleged irregularities in recruitment in Hassan and Mysore medical colleges after Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa reportedly issued an order cancelling the hiring process.
An agitated Mr. Gowda, told reporters he would meet and apprise the Chief Minister of the entire process of recruitment along with documents when he returns to the city from his tour within the State.
“There has been no instance of corruption or favouritism or nepotism in these recruitments”, he said, adding “if the Chief Minister orders an inquiry, I whole-heartedly welcome it.”
The recruitment in question was in 307 “C” and “D” category of posts in Hassan Medical College and 83 in Mysore Medical College. JDS leader H D Revanna had alleged irregularities in the recruitments.
Mr. Gowda, who is considered to be close to Mr. Yeddyurappa, could not give a definite answer when asked whether the Chief Minister indeed had cancelled the recruitment. He said he was not aware of it but later also said he may have done so.
“If the recruitment was indeed cancelled, I will request the Chief Minister to withdraw the order (cancelling the recruitment)”, he said.
In the event of cancellation of the recruitment, injustice will be caused to the candidates selected and appointed on the basis of merit and roster, he added.
The two colleges are autonomous institutions and the posts were filled on the basis of merit and roster, he claimed.
The appointing authority of these posts is the Director of the institutions and the recruitment was done after obtaining the Governing Council’s approval, he added.
