Members of different wings of the Congress party and supporters of former MP Ramya staged a protest here on Tuesday to urge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to include their leader in the Cabinet.

Demanding a ministerial berth for Ms. Ramya, they took out a rally on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and demonstrated near Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle.

The Congress is losing its hold in Mandya district because of the anti-party activities of some followers of former Minister M.H. Ambareesh. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) should give more responsibility to the former MP to strengthen the party, the protesters said.

They added that Ms. Ramya, an aspiring young leader in the party, had extensively toured the district to understand the plight of the people when she was the MP in 2013. However, unfortunately, she lost the election battle in 2014 owing to anti-party politics. Ms. Ramya has studied Public Administration and Governance abroad and can efficiently handle any portfolio, the agitators said.

“We will intensify our protests if the Congress high command fails to give our leader a ministerial berth,” they told presspersons.

The agitators demanded that
