Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards: Guha, Vaidehi, Yesudas among 62 recipients

Awards will be presented by Chief Minister tomorrow

The State government has chosen 62 persons for the annual Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, including historian Ramachandra Guha, writer Vaidehi, theatre personality ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru, Carnatic musician and playback singer K.J. Yesudas, and former judge H.N. Nagamohan Das.

Mr. Guha, a historian based in Bengaluru, was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2009 and is the recipient of honorary doctorate from Yale University. His recent work ‘Gandhi Before India’ was chosen as notable book of the year by TheNew York Times . Mr. Guha told The Hindu that he was “deeply touched and honoured” by the award.

Vaidehi, a noted writer in Kannada, has received many prestigious literary awards, including the Sahitya Akademi award. Mr. Chandru is a noted theatre and film personality and has served as the chairperson of the Kannada Development Authority. K.J. Yesudas, renowned Carnatic musician and playback singer, is a Padma Award recipient besides State awards for his songs in films across several languages. The award, which carries a purse of ₹1 lakh, gold medal, and citation, will be presented to the recipients by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a function organised in Ravindra Kalakshetra on November 1.
