Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday unleashed a scathing attack on the BJP for letting down the poor and marginalised sections while pleasing the rich with huge tax concessions and waiver of corporate loans.

Addressing a massive party workers’ convention here, Mr. Gandhi criticised the Centre for not coming to the rescue of farmers and waiving their loans.

Farm loan waiver

“BJP is opposed to farm loan waiver as it thinks that such measures would make farmers lazy. At the same time, it is not hesitant to help the super-rich by announcing huge tax concessions and waiver of corporate loans. The Congress works for the poorest and the marginalised sections that live at the end of the line, and BJP strives to help the super-rich that are at the forefront of the line,” Mr. Gandhi said.

Commending Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the farm loan waiver, Mr. Gandhi said the special status accorded to the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region by implementing Article 371(J) of the Constitution was a result of years of struggle by the Congress.
