The overall pass percentage in the SSLC results may have declined, but all is not grim.
An analysis of results reveals that the number of students who have obtained A plus, A, and B plus have increased compared to last year. This year, 6.61 per cent (40,848) of the total 6.17 lakh students bagged the A plus grade. In the 2015 examination, only 4.09 percent had obtained an A.
Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar said that while the pass percentage had dipped, the quality of results had improved.
This year, 16.25 per cent of 1,00,313 students have obtained an A grade, which is an increase compared to last year’s 11.58 per cent. Similarly, the number of students who have secured B plus has shot up massively to 22.42 per cent (1.38 lakh students). Last year, only 1.84 per cent of the total 6.68 lakh students bagged B plus.
Centum double
The number of centum scored by students has also doubled. While there were nearly 9,300 centum last year in all six subjects, this year the number of centum has gone up to 19,376. T he highest number of centum has been obtained in third language with 7,505 students bagging a full 100. The least centum is in science with only 441 students scoring 100.
A zero
Similarly, students have secured zero in 506 papers across all six subjects. The highest number of zero has been secured by 135 candidates in the final mathematics paper. Third language had the least number of 44 students obtaining a zero.
Medium-wise
Students from English-medium high schools have secured the best pass percentage with 87 per cent. Tamil-medium schools have the least passes with 46.54 per cent. Kannada-medium schools have secured 75.61 per cent.
