The recent nationwide pulse polio campaign saw Mysuru city exceeding the target set.
Polio drops were administered to 1,01,740 children under the age of five years in the city between January 18 and 21, against the targeted 99,669, achieving a coverage of 102.08 per cent.
According to officials in the Health and Family Welfare Department in Mysuru, they could exceed the target due to coverage of children at transit centres set up at tourist spots, bus stands and the railway station. The figures made available by the officials showed 84 per cent coverage reached on January 18 when polio drops were administered at the booths set up in the City. The figure increased to 102.08 per cent during the three days of house to house visits on January 19, 20 and 21.
As far as Mysuru district is concerned, a total of 3,00,193 children below the age of five years were administered with polio drops out of the targeted 3,13,757 children, reaching a coverage of 95.67 per cent.
While 2,71,262 children were covered on January 18 when polio drops were administered at the booths, the remaining 28,931 were covered during the house to house visits on January 19 and 20.
