Prachara Ratha, the publicity vehicle for the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, was launched at the Maharaja’s College Grounds here on Saturday.

It will traverse through Mysuru district, besides parts of Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts, marking the countdown for the mega event to be held in the city from November 24 to 26.

The vehicle was flagged off by Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, who is also Mysuru district in-charge Minister.

The vehicle is tastefully decorated and embellished with the images of Kannada litterateurs who are the winners of the Jnanpith Award. An idol of goddess Bhuvaneshwari — who is referred to as the ‘goddess of Karnataka’ — finds a place in the ratha which will traverse across the hinterland of Mysuru district, drumming up publicity for the Kannada conference.

Apart from an image of the Mysuru palace, portraits of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and conference president Chandrashekar Patil — popularly known as Champa — also find a place on the vehicle.

The vehicle will traversed across the city on Saturday, covering the thoroughfares and the commercial centres, and will traverse the length and breadth of the seven taluks of Mysuru district during the next four days.

On November 16 and 17, the publicity vehicle will cover Srirangapatna and surrounding areas in Mandya district besides K.M. Doddi and Malavalli, after which it will enter Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district.

Terkanambi, Beguru, Gundlupet and other areas will be covered before the vehicle returns to Mysuru on November 19 when it will make its last lap covering residential areas of the city.
