City Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in parts of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate from Friday 6 a.m. to Saturday 6 p.m.

Mr. Sekhar told presspersons here that the police do not intended to disturb normal life by clamping the orders in Mangaluru Central and South Police sub divisions. But, the orders are aimed at illegal processions and holding illegal assemblies, he said.

Sources said tension prevailed in Ullal on Thursday night following attempts by three groups to take control over the famous Dargah Sharief. The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

On Friday, one of the groups sought police permission to hold a procession with regard to the incident and the same was denied. Prohibitory orders are the fallout of such incidents, sources added.
