A programme to administer two fractional doses of Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) in injection form to six-week and 14-week old newborns was launched here on Monday. It follows a direction of the Union government and was part of the Global Polio Endgame Strategic Plan.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Mohammad Zakir Ansari inaugurated it by administering the first dose of 0.1 ml IPV to a female child.

Dr. Ansari said that this would be a continuous programme and each primary health centre would have a team of health workers who would be entrusted the responsibility of covering at least six villages each.
