NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind made a quick visit to Bengaluru on Wednesday to formally seek support of legislators and MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party State unit and like-minded groups.

Mr. Kovind interacted with legislators and MPs of the BJP at a private hotel here in which he promised to work unbiased and uphold the country’s Constitution if elected to the post of the President.

The support for him swelled in Karnataka as Rajya Sabha Independent member Rajeev Chandrashekhar, three MLAs from the BSR Congress and Independent MLA Nagendra also offered their support.

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar told reporters that Independent MLAs Haladi Srinivasa Shetty and Ashok Kheny too had agreed to back Mr. Kovind.

Referring to the support from different States, BJP’s former State president Pralhad Joshi remarked that the Presidential elections will turn out to be a nominal contest and Mr. Kovind will win by a record margin.

Addressing the meeting, Party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa announced appointment of Opposition whip in the Assembly Sunil Kumar as the party’s agent for the Presidential elections from the State.

He called upon party leaders to work towards increasing the support for Mr. Kovind from Karnataka.

Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and D.V. Sadananda Gowda were also present on the occasion.
