Launch indefinite hunger strike seeking regularisation of services
More than 70 pourakarmikas working with the Kolar City Municipal Council (CMC) on daily wage basis launched an indefinite hunger strike outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, seeking regularisation of their services and implementation of a Supreme Court order in this regard.
The civic body has grossly violated the equal work equal pay policy, the agitators said. “The CMC authorities are violating the Supreme Court directive dated April 10, 2006, regarding regularisation of services of daily wage workers,” said V. Narayanaswamy, president of the protest organising committee.
While a number of employees working since 1986 on daily wage basis have passed away without getting any legal benefits due to negligence of CMC authorities, several others are on the verge of superannuation, the protesters pointed out and demanded that all the 72 on daily wage roll be regularised.
A number of councillors including Murali Gowda and Somashekhar participated in the dharna as a token of support. Committee secretary Manjunath and activist P.V. Raman were present.
