Speakers at a symposium on the ‘Sinking standards of education’, organised by the All India Save Education Committee and district unit of the All India Democratic Student’s Organisation (AIDSO) here on Tuesday, blamed educational reforms and anti-education policies of the Union and State governments for the fall in the quality of education in recent times.
G.M. Veerbhadraiah, the former principal of B.Ed college, said that the standard of education has been falling ever since educational reforms were introduced in 1986 under the guise of improving the education system. “As a result of these reforms, not a single university in the country finds a place among the 200 top universities in the world. Even in a survey conducted on the quality of primary education in 73 countries, India ranked 72nd,” he said.
Bhagwan Reddy, convenor, State-unit of Democratic Teachers Organisation, said that the lack of basic infrastructure in government schools and shortage of teachers and laboratories here has resulted in a fall in the quality of education.
