With the increasing number of stray cattle in the city becoming a nuisance, the district police have sought the help of the city corporation to transport all the stray cattle to goshalas.
Making this submission during a public grievance meeting here on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Shivakumar Gunare said that stray cattle were creating enormous traffic problem in the city.
He said that since only the police department can’t deal with the menace, the assistance of the corporation was required.
“If the corporation is ready to provide vehicles and men to load the stray cattle, then the police would also join hands to transport them to the nearest goshalas,” Dr. Gunare said.
District in-charge Minister M.B. Patil, who was chairing the meeting, asked the Mayor Sangeeta Pol to make the required arrangements to clear the city of stray cattle.
During the meeting, Mr. Patil asked the officials of the corporation to conduct a survey of all the ward to find out how many houses and shops were being constructed without obtaining mandatory permission from the corporation. “I am giving you two months to collect the details and later start fining them which will allow the owners to regularise and corporation will get revenue,” he said.
He asked Ms. Pol to convene the meeting of all the corporators to discuss the issue. Replying to a demand of a petitioner on increasing the amount from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000 for getting toilets constructed under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Mr. Patil said that it was better to transfer the demand to the Union Government.
He said that while the State government offered Rs. 12,000, the Union government gave only Rs. 4,000 under the Swachh Bharat scheme.
