The city police on Wednesday released the sketch of a man who appeared to be around 25, suspected to be involved in the two blasts near the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 17.
“The sketch is based on the description given by a police constable,” said Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari. “The police constable saw this person running away from the stadium on Friday night, a day before the blasts,” he told presspersons here.
Mr. Bidari said those having any information about the suspect can call 080-22943322 or 080-22942222.
A police officer has been deputed to collect information from the former wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani, who had said he had seen some persons running away from the stadium on the day of the blasts.
Suitcase lifters
Mr. Bidari said the five detained in Hubli on Tuesday turned out to be suitcase lifters who operated in Bangalore.
Bangalore Central Crime Branch sleuths had zeroed in on the five — from Uttar Pradesh — at a Hubli lodge. They were in Bangalore on April 16 and left the next day. “When we questioned them, it was found that they were accused in suitcase thefts. They had stolen a few on April 16 and had gone to Hubli,” Mr. Bidari said.
The five are said to be a part of the gang allegedly involved in stealing suitcases from Bangalore City Railway Station and the Kempe Gowda bus terminus. Two cases were registered against two of them in Upparpet police station a year ago.
“The five accused have been arrested. The jurisdictional (Upparpet) police will question them further,” Mr. Bidari said. They will be produced before a city magistrate on Thursday.
Pillai coming
Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai will visit Bangalore on Friday for the first time after having taken over as the Home Secretary. He will meet Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh and other senior police officers.
