Accused Vikramdas Mulimani who was shot at and injured by a police team on the outskirts of Kalaburagi on Monday.

Vikramdas Mulimani, one of the accused in the attempt-to-murder on Srikant Reddy was shot at and injured by a police team after he attacked the police officials with lethal weapons on the outskirts of Kalaburagi on Monday morning.

A head constable attached to the district crime branch Ambadas received serious injuries on his left arm when he was attacked with a weapon by Mulimani in his bid to escape near Keri Bhosga, on the outskirts of the city.

The accused has sustained a bullet injury in the left leg and is now being treated in a hospital here.

Four persons were arrested by the Kalaburagi police here on Friday in connection with the attempt-to-murder on the gymnasium owner (Srikant Reddy) on March 23.

Based on the information provided by the arrested, the police arrested Mulimani, who had taken shelter in Bengaluru after committing the offence. On coming to know that Mulimani had hidden arms and weapons in different places in the city, the police took him to those spots.

On reaching one of the spots, Mulimani attacked the police constable with a lethal weapon kept in a barren land and later started throwing stones at the police officials to escape from the scene. However, the police opened fire at Mulimani and succeeded in securing him.

Inspector-General of Police (North Eastern Range) Alok Kumar visited Basaveshwar Hospital, where the injured head constable Ambadas is undergoing treatment.

Mr. Alok Kumar told presspersons that eight people were arrested in connection with Srikant Reddy’s case and all the accused will be booked under provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) to curb organised crime in the region.

Expressing concern over the growing number of organised crime, including extortion, in the city over the years, Mr. Alok Kumar asserted that they wanted to send a strong message to anti-social elements through this. “The KCOCA has so far not been used in this area, it is for the first time that we are seriously thinking of using it,” he said.
