The district unit of Bharatiya Dalit Sene has demanded that stringent measures should be taken to stop illegal stone quarrying and sand transportation in the district. Brake also should be put on stone crushing, it urged.

In a memorandum submitted to the district administration on Thursday, the organisation said the exchequer was facing loss to the tune of crores of rupees due to illegal stone quarrying, sand transportation and stone crushing. Beside local people, industrialists from other States also engaged in illegal activities, Sene president Narayanaswamy said.

Alleging that police, Mines and Geological Department and taluk as well as district administration have failed in containing the illegal mining activities, Mr. Narayanaswamy warned of staging an agitation in front of the district in-charge Minister’s office.

Dalit Organisations’ Federation State president Harohalli Narayanaswamy was present, among others.
