Energy Minister D.K. Shivkumar said there are plans to open transformer banks in every taluk to ensure proper supply of transformers in rural and urban areas of the state. These transformer banks would play a crucial role in repairing and servicing the existing transformers.
Speaking after the inauguration of the divisional office of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (Bescom) here on Friday, the minister stated that there are complaints, from across the state, that it takes a minimum of four days to repair a transformer and during that period, the officials find it very difficult to ensure proper supply of power to the area. There were many instances where the transformers were taken to different places to get them repaired. So, the state government has decided to open a transformer bank in every taluk of the state.
The move will also help in reducing the amount spent on repairing and servicing the transformers. The state government is spending around Rs. 400 crore every year for the repair and servicing of transformers, he said.
