‘Piped LPG supply to Hubballi-Dharwad kitchens in 2-3 years’

April 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Dharwad:

If everything goes as per plans, the residents of Hubballi-Dharwad will get liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in their kitchens through pipelines in the next 2-3 years.

Pralhad Joshi, MP, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on petroleum and natural gas, told presspersons here recently that the Indian Oil Corporation and the Adani Group have jointly taken up the project.

The scheme was sanctioned by the Union government last year. But the work of laying the underground pipelines could not be taken up as the roads were dug up for other works. To avoid undue procedural delay in allocating the work, a meeting of officials of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), district administration and others concerned would be held soon to finalise the tender and allot the work.

The scheme envisages laying of pipelines (53 km) around Hubballi and Dharwad and 2,300 km in the twin-cities. The work may take three years to complete, Mr. Joshi added.

Under Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, Rs. 40 crore of the sanctioned Rs. 80 crore has been released and the amount would be spent on installing smart boards in schools and solar grids at government hospitals, he added. Harobelawadi in Dharwad taluk, which has been chosen for Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna, would have a 180 KV solar grid installed and the entire village would be declared a solar village. Selco has been chosen to take up the work, Mr. Joshi said.

Deputy Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan and others were present.
