Expressing concern over the brain drain in the country Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj H. K. Patil on Monday urged the youth not to work in foreign countries for more than two years.
Addressing postgraduate students of different subjects at the inauguration of a personality development programme at Ramakrishna Math here, the minister said the youth were the real asset of the country and not mineral deposits. The trend of talented youth serving abroad and settling down there was on the rise. Foreign countries were making use of the best talents of India at a cheaper rate there. Instead, talented youth should serve in India for the growth of the country.
Mr. Patil said Swami Vivekananda placed high hopes on the youth. All his speeches were youth centric. He had the confidence that youth could build the nation. The Math is organising a series of six personality development programmes for post-graduate, graduate, pre-university, and B.Ed. students, and school and college teachers from Monday to Saturday.
Sushil Chandra M., General Manager (human resource development), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., gave away scholarships to 20 meritorious students among 65 eligible students. President of Mangalore branch of the math Swami Jitakamananda spoke.
