Former Mayor and Congress leader Deepak Chinchore has urged veteran journalist Patil Puttappa to lead a non-political movement seeking the eatablishement of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hubballi-Dharwad.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Chinchore said that he wanted the veteran journalist to lead the movement as the movement was required to be non-political to take the issue to the logical end.

Thanking Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the government’s decision to include Hubballi-Dharwad in the list of three places recommended for the IIT, Mr. Chinchore said that now it was left to the leaders and people from the region to prevail upon the Union government to choose the twin cities for setting up the premiere educational institute.

He said that he would also urge the former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to make his stand clear on the issue because it was during his tenure as the Chief Minister that the cabinet took a decision on recommending Raichur for the IIT.
