Likening the current political status of India to a “kite without strings”, writer Devanur Mahadeva on Sunday said parties are sowing lies, illusion and hatred among voters.
“To make people believe these lies, illusions and hatred, money is being spent. Voters have short memory. We should work towards reviving voters’ memory,” he said during the launch of the vision document of Swaraj India Party-Karnataka. As part of reviving the memory of voters between two elections, he said: “We should start asking the Congress and JD(S) as to how many promises were made in manifestos and how many have been implemented.”
On the promise of one crore jobs made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said: “Reports suggest that job generation has actually declined from the day the announcement was made.”
The Swaraj India Party, which is expected to contest in the ensuing Assembly elections, is part of ‘Maha Maitri’, a coalition of social movements and smaller parties.
Meanwhile, Vision Swaraj: An Agenda for India , a document to generate democratic dialogue for alternative politics, says politics of the country is degenerating. “People need better politics and governance to lead better lives. Indian political parties operate in vacuum, none have programme-oriented vision or programmatic ideologies. They are driven by election-oriented politics,” it said.
