The State government has ordered a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into the II pre-university mathematics question paper leak that led to the postponement of Tuesday's examination. Speaking to The Hindu, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweswara Hegde Kageri said that the government was in talks with the Police Department regarding this inquiry.
On Monday evening, there were reports of the maths question paper leak in Chintamani, Mulbagal and Malur. Having denied the news initially, the Department of Pre-University Education decided to postpone Tuesday's mathematics examination to April 3 after the reports were proven right.
Terming it an “unfortunate incident,” Mr. Vishweswara Hegde Kageri said the question paper leak was rather surprising as the system was otherwise foolproof. “The system we follow is foolproof as the question papers are taken to the exam centres from the treasuries only on the morning of the exam. Here, the paper appears to have been smuggled out for profit,” he added.
When asked if there could be an insider's hand in the incident, Mr. Kageri said, “All angles will be probed into. We are not able to ascertain where the weak point is. So the inquiry will be made at various levels, including the (PU) Director's office, the team that prepared the question paper, the printing and the treasury.”
