The 77-acre tank being built near Gadag for facilitating regular water supply to Gadag-Betageri will be a model for water conservation and utilisation, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil has said.
He was speaking to presspersons after inspecting the work at Papanashi near Gadag on Saturday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had laid the foundation stone for the work on June 4.
Mr. Patil said efforts were being taken to make the reservoir a tourist destination also and accordingly works would be taken up. The State government has released Rs. 10 crore for the development of the water tank.
Mr. Patil was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Manoj Jain, Assistant Commissioner P.S. Manjunath, Project Director of District Urban Development Cell Ramesh Desai and others. The Minister asked the officials to complete the work as per schedule.
