Panel to study status of drinking water schemes

A committee, comprising Tahsildar, Executive Officer, Assistant Executive Officer, Panchayat Development Officer and village accountant, has been formed in each of the seven taluks to study the status of drinking water schemes, borewells, repairs needed, villages facing water crisis among other things and submit a report in a fortnight.

Monthly meeting

A decision to this effect was taken at the monthly meeting that was held here on Friday to review the progress of implementing the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP).

Deena, vice-president and acting president, was in the chair.

Ramprasath Manohar, Deputy Commissioner and in-charge Chief Executive Officer, wanted the committee to study the reasons for failure of the source for supply of drinking water in problematic villages so that works could be taken up on priority.

‘Avoid drilling’

Drawing the attention to depleting underground water source, he underlined the need for officials concerned to avoid drilling borewells unnecessarily and wanted them to take prior permission of the district administration in this regard.

He also instructed the officials to initiate all necessary steps to complete all the drinking water schemes expeditiously to avoid drinking water problem.

He instructed the officials to fill up all impounding reservoirs of multi-village drinking water schemes from the canals so as to avoid crisis during the ensuing summer.

He directed issue of notices to some of the officials who failed to attend the meeting.
