Senior Hindustani classical vocalist Panchakshari Swami Mattigatti (86) died at his residence after a prolonged illness here on Friday. His death came barely a day after he was felicitated at a function held on the occasion of his 86th birthday. The last rites will be performed on Saturday.

MLAs Vinay Kulkarni, Arvind Bellad, the former MLA Chandrakant Bellad, Hindustani vocalists Venkatesh Kumar, D. Kumar Das and others visited Mr. Mattigatti’s residence to pay their last respects.

Mr. Mattigatti was professor of music at the Karnatak University Dharwad and ‘A’ grade artist at All India Radio, Dharwad.
