Over 2,000 get assured jobs at Disha Career Fest

As many as 331 candidates got selected and another 1,718 got short-listed at Disha Career Fest 2018 exclusively organised for students from non-engineering stream by the Dakshina Kannada district administration here on Saturday.

As many as 6,592 candidates participating in the fest held on Mangalagangothri campus of Mangalore University at Konaje, had nearly 5,000 jobs on offer from 130 participating companies. The district administration’s Centre for Employment Opportunity and Learning (CEOL) organised the fest in association with Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, and the Department of Employment and Training at the initiative of Minister U.T. Khader.

There were 1,107 SSLC/PU pass candidates, 432 ITI, 729 Diploma, 2,781 undergraduate, 1,458 postgraduate and 85 medical/ paramedical candidates in the fest to test their qualification and skills.

Speaking after inaugurating the fest, district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai said that the fair, to be a regular feature, would help unemployed youth to get jobs commensurate to their qualification and skills.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khader said that the government has sanctioned ₹ 50 lakh for the fair. Another job fair would be conducted for engineering candidates, the Minister said.

Companies from Bengaluru, Mangaluru and other parts of the State participated in the fair to choose their candidates. Aspirants from different parts of the coastal region attended the fest.

CEOL is the initiative of Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil, who had formed it at Raichur during his stint there.
