In a tragic incident, one person was killed and four others were injured after accidentally coming into contact with a live wire at Nagaralli village in Hubli taluk of Dharwad district on Friday, when they were returning from a funeral.
The mishap occurred when the residents of the village were returning after attending the funeral of Yallavva Hanumanthappa Marinaik of the village.
The ‘kalash’ of ‘sidagi’ (cart used for carrying the dead to the graveyard) came into contact with the low-lying electric line, resulting in electrocution of those carrying the ‘sidagi’.
Of the four who were injured, three have been admitted to KIMS Hospital in Hubli and one has been admitted to a private hospital.
The name of the deceased has been given by the police as Fakirappa Hanumanthappa Kanakaji.
Compensation soughtExpressing shock over the incident, BJP State president Pralhad Joshi, MP, met the kin of the deceased at Nagaralli village on Saturday. He spoke to the Managing Director of the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) over telephone and sought immediate steps to provide compensation to the kin of the deceased person.
Mr. Joshi also spoke to Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar and urged him to provide compensation to the kin of deceased and to the injured persons. He also urged for requisite measures to prevent recurrence of such events in the district. He met the injured persons and enquired about their health.
