After a marathon meeting with a delegation from the theatre community, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports on Thursday agreed to allow National School of Drama-Bengaluru Chapter (NSD-BC) to continue functioning from Guru Nanak Bhavan.

Their eviction from Guru Nanak Bhavan on Wednesday had drawn flak from theatre and cultural personalities.

Anupam Agarwal, department’s director, has issued new orders with conditions on the use of the auditorium only for theatrical purposes.

Basavalingaiah, Director, NSD-BC, said he had no objection to the new arrangement and would communicate the development to NSD Society New Delhi, which oversees administration and management and is a policy making body of NSD. A delegation of theatre personalities had met Mr. Agarwal and explained the need to allow NSD-BC to work in Guru Nanak Bhavan. Following this, Mr. Basavalingaiah decided to withdraw the protest launched on Wednesday morning.
