Now, tourists can shop in the taxi

Now, tourists can shop for ‘authentic’ keepsakes of Mysuru in taxis that will sell merchandise connected to the city.

Shopping-on-Wheels, a new initiative, promises to make Mysuru handicrafts and other souvenirs, available within the cab itself. An initiative of Mysore Travel Mart, Mysore Travel Agents’ Association (MTA) and Desiadda in association with Mysore District Tourist Vehicle Drivers’ and Owners’ Welfare Association and Karnataka Tourism, the concept was launched here on Sunday.

The former Minister, S.A. Ramdas, symbolically handed over boxes containing products to taxi drivers, who will market the products among their customers.

B.S. Prashanth, chairman, Mysore Travel Mart, C.A. Jayakumar, president, MTA, Vision Group – MTA founder Murali Kona Reddy and others were present. The launch was followed by training session for taxi drivers.

Mr. Prashanth said that brochures about the products available on Shopping-on-Wheels will be given to customers who can pick up his or her choice from the assortment.

The products include replicas of Amba Vilas Palace, Clock Tower, K R Circle, Aane Gaadi, wood inlay work, bamboo fibre box set, rosewood elephants, among others. The assortment of products called ‘Royal Mysuru Treasure’ contains a small replica of Amba Vilas Palace, Fibre Gift box, jewellery box, ‘Gandabherunda’ key chain, tea coaster, elephant keychain, ambari, elephant pulling logs, Aane Gaadi, veena and wooden sandook.

The products are handpicked from local artists, small industries and designers. Customers can also shop the products onlinewww.desiadda.inand get them delivered at their hotel or even to their residential address.
