Union Minister for Overseas Affairs Vayalar Ravi has said that he was not surprised over the resignation of Congress leader Siddaramaiah from the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to mediapersons at Hubli airport on Friday, Mr. Ravi said that Mr. Siddaramaiah was not originally from the Congress and he should have by this time understood the system that the Congress High Command follows when it comes to issue of party ticket to candidates. He was in Hubli to participate in the national executive committee meetings of the All-India Youth Congress Committee and the National Students Union of India.

To another query, he said deliberations at the national executive meeting would be of great help not only with regard to the forthcoming elections but also in providing the right political education to the young leaders of the party.

To a query on the allegations of the Anna Team against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr. Ravi said their allegations are aimed at getting publicity.

True face

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who reached Hubli on Thursday night, told mediapersons that the true face of the Bharatiya Janata Party had been revealed in Karnataka.

He said there was a rift in the BJP at the national level and to cover it up, their leaders were making baseless allegations against the UPA government.

He said the rift in the BJP was not only at the national level but also in Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan. “BJP doesn't have any development agenda. Their only agenda is to grab power by duping the people in the name of religion, caste and tradition,” he said.
