The Party state unit does not have authority to decide on pre-poll pacts: Raghunathrao Malkapure

A day after Karnataka Janata Paksha leader Dhananjaya Kumar announced that the party would like to have a tie-up with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP warned its leaders of disciplinary action if they issued public statements seeking inclusion of KJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa into the party.

Briefing presspersons after a meeting of the party district units’ organisational election in-charge leaders in Bangalore on Thursday, BJP general secretary Raghunathrao Malkapure said party leaders had been told not issue statements and that only those authorised by the party would comment on it.

He said the party would not attach much importance to Mr. Dhananjaya Kumar’s offer for an alliance with the KJP. “At present, we do not have a proposal to have a pre-poll alliance with any political party in the State,” he said.

Mr. Malkapure said the BJP leaders had decided to take out a padayatra to different parts of the State on June 25 to raise public awareness and seek donations for those affected by the floods in Uttarakhand.
