He says he has quit politics but politics don’t seem to leave him alone.
Former Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal has ruled out his re-entry into politics.
“I am fully focussed on my business now and that’s precisely why I spend most of my time in Delhi. I have been keeping away from politics…so much so that I have even stopped seeing Telugu television news channels. I don’t know what’s happening in the State of Andhra Pradesh right now,” Mr. Lagadapati told this reporter.
When pointed to flexis surfacing in the city on the occasion of his birthday on Monday by his fans who want him to make a comeback and fill the void that the Congress is suffering, he said he had received a few phone calls from Vijayawada informing about the flexi boards: “I don’t know who put up those boards. As far as I am concerned, there is no question of coming back into politics,” he said categorically.
In the same breath, he went on to add: “Talk of rejuvenating the Congress party is like trying to revive a dead patient. The public is angry and it has been clearly reflecting in its election verdicts. Look at the recent case of Tirupati,” he says, adding that the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress party are the only alternatives left for people now.
Mr. Lagadapati’s name has been intermittently surfacing in the local political circles but each time the former MP has vehemently denied plans of returning to politics. In defiance of his party stand on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Lagadapati had repeatedly warned the Congress high command against dividing the State.
The ‘Hero of Seemandhra’ who single-mindedly championed the cause of ‘Samaikyandhra’ made an abrupt exit from politics after the infamous pepper spray attack in Parliament.
