There will be no holiday for schools, colleges and banks in Bangalore on Thursday. Kannada organisations, led by Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, has called for a bandh from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to condemn the increase in crimes against women.
While Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said no holiday has been declared for schools, Bangalore University Registrar (Administration) K.K. Seethamma said the university will remain open. No holiday has been declared for affiliated colleges either, she said. Banks too will remain open. T.K. Shivaram, Deputy Manager (PR and CSB), State Bank of India, said the bank does not “take a stand by closing” and only in the event of a problem will there be a possibility of a branch office being closed. Madhur S. Bhandarkar, Chief Manager, Public Relations, State Bank of Mysore, and Krishna Kumar, Chief Manager, Vijaya Bank, also said their banks will remain open.
Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj said 76 associations and organisations had pledged their support for a “peaceful and non-political” bandh.
