N.A. Haris, Congress MLA, tendered an apology in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday over his son, Mohammed Nalapad Haris, assaulting a youth at a restaurant in Bengaluru.

Clarifying his stance on the issue, Mr. Haris, who represents Shanthinagar constituency, said: “I’m pained by the incident involving my son. Circumstances, sometimes, are not in our hands and incidents do happen. My apology to the House as well as to mediapersons.”

He further said: “Being a father, I try to discipline my son. No father should face the situation I’m in now.” While the incident should not have occurred, he said it had been blown out of proportion in the media since elections are round the corner in the State. “The law will take its own course and I will not interfere in the matter,” he said, after a reply on the debate by Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
