Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Tuesday, categorically stated that there were no pending police cases against him and all five cases that were registered were closed in 2008.

No cases were pending against him since the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed the summary closure report, commonly called “C report”, in 2008.

“When the cases have been closed, where is the necessity of mentioning cases in the affidavit filed along with nomination papers for the 2013 Assembly elections?” he asked.

The Chief Minister said the police booked cases against him with regard to protest demonstrations and dharnas in Mysuru. “I know personally that the police withdrew one case and closed four other cases,” he said.

He alleged that Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy was attempting to tarnish his image by claiming there were 10 cases registered against him (Mr. Siddaramaiah).

A day after K.J. George resigned from the Cabinet, Mr. Siddaramaiah, while defending his former Cabinet colleague, lashed out at the Opposition BJP and JD(S). “The BJP is morally bankrupt. FIRs have been filed against more than a dozen ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. Why are the BJP leaders not seeking resignation of Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya against whom FIR has been registered following the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in the Hyderabad Central University?” he asked.

The Chief Minister said a FIR has also been filed against Union Textile Minister Smirti Irani in an accident case in Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Abhishek was killed in a road accident allegedly involving a vehicle in Ms. Irani’s cavalcade. “But both Mr. Dattatreya and Ms. Irani are continuing as Ministers in the Modi Government,” he said.

Campaign against BJP

A total of 24 police officers committed suicide when H.D. Kumaraswamy was the chief minister and 17 when Jagadish Shettar was the chief minister, he charged.

The Congress would expose pending cases against BJP leaders, including B.S. Yeddyurappa, Jagadish Shettar and K.S. Eshwarappa. To counter the BJP’s campaign against the government on the alleged suicide by police officials, the Congress will launch a campaign in all taluk and district headquarters against misdeeds of BJP leaders.
