The district administration has organised a National Highway Land Acquisition Compensation Adalat in Mangaluru on Saturday June 11 to settle compensation claims of land owners whose lands have been acquired for the four-laning of National Highway 66 in 17 villages between Talapady and Mulki, excluding the stretch between Nanthoor and Surathkal.

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim told presspersons here on Thursday that 376 land owners had sought arbitration disputing the compensation amount. After the arbitration, the Deputy Commissioner, who was also the arbitrator, had ordered enhancement of compensation in 296 cases. Out of these, additional compensation had been paid only in 87 cases.

As such, the Adalat offers an opportunity to land owners who have not yet received the compensation to receive it. They should come with required documents and the compensation would be paid on the spot, he said.

Meanwhile, the administration is finding it difficult to locate as many as 900 land owners whose properties had been acquired in this stretch. Rs. 53.62 crore meant for payment of the compensation is lying idle with the Deputy Commissioner while Rs. 104.51 crore compensation had been paid to identified land owners. Hence, those land owners may attend the adalat to get the compensation, Mr. Ibrahim said.

NHAI Project Director Samson Vijay Kumar, Zilla Panchayat CEO P.I. Shreevidya, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar, and Assistant Commissioner Ashok were present.
