Two babies born between 6 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. at Cheluvamba Hospital here on Monday have been named after Narendra Modi, who was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister in New Delhi on Monday.
As Mr. Modi took the oath, the parents named their babies after Mr. Modi, inspired by his remarkable success in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
When the news spread, a group of Bharatiya Janata Party workers and leaders, including the former Minister S.A. Ramdas, visited the hospital and presented gifts to the parents and the babies.
“The two babies were born at almost the same time that Mr. Modi took the oath of office. Therefore, in memory of this historic occasion, the two couples named their babies after Mr. Modi,” Mr. Ramdas told reporters here.
One of the couples — Krishna and his wife Shashi, both from Mavinahalli in T. Narsipur taluk — named their son Narendra Krishna Modi. Mr. Krishna told The Hindu : “I was inspired by Mr. Modi’s success and thought it would be fitting to name my child after Mr. Modi.”
The other couple, Madhukar and Uma, from Hosahalli in Srirangapatna taluk named their son, Tanmay Modi.
