Nepal quake: 27 from Dharwad, Haveri safe

A 27-member group from Dharwad, Haveri, Navalgund and Naragund, which had gone to Nepal for a trip, is found to be safe in Khokhra.

According to information received here, the team members left for Delhi on April 20 and reached Kathmandu on April 23.

They were in Kathmandu till an hour before the earthquake occurred and had proceeded to Khokhra.

Family members were not able to establish contact with them.

Vasanth Kadalur, brother of Shashidhar Kadalur of Dharwad, who is in the team, told reporters that his brother contacted them in the evening and informed them about his safety.

He said that as the flight services had been cancelled, they were awaiting alternate arrangements from the government.

Another couple from Dharwad, Ramesh Kulkarni, a former Agriculture Department officer and his wife, Bharati Kulkarni, who had gone to Pashupatinath Temple on Saturday, are also safe.

Their relatives in Dharwad were informed about their safety by the couple themselves, who told them that they had returned to their hotel, when the earthquake happened.
